7 Creative Ways to Upcycle Your Empty Candle Jars

7 Creative Ways to Upcycle Your Empty Candle Jars - Everly

Did you know that we produce 60 tons of household waste every second? Although it feels like an impossible statistic, it’s true - and our planet is suffering because of it. The World Counts states that “By 2050, household waste will grow by 70 percent reaching 3.4 billion tons a year, meaning that waste generation will outpace population growth by more than double.” The only way to eliminate this waste is to make small changes to how we use and consume our products. A great way to cut back on the amount of waste we throw away every year is to reuse our empty candle jars instead of tossing them in the trash!

Before we can completely transofrm your empty candle jars into useful household items, we have to get them cleaned out first!

Here are two methods that we love using:

1.The Freezer method:

Grab your empty candle and set it in the freezer for at least an hour. Then, with a spoon or butter knife, pop out the remaining wax carefully to not break the glass. Once the wax is removed, lightly tug on the wick to remove it from the jar. Finally, wash by hand and remove the labels if you wish!

2.The Boiling Water Method:

First, set your candle on a towel or newspaper and pour boiling water over the wax. Leave some room at the top and watch as the water melts your wax! Once it is fully melted, the wax will rise to the top, and after the water cools, you can remove the wax and clean the jar!

Now that your jar is clean and empty, there are endless ways to upcycle it! Here are seven of our favourite ways to repurpose used candle vessels:

1.Tea and coffee holders

Ditch your coffee can and fill your empty candle jar with coffee grounds! This is a great way to keep your kitchen organized while opting for a clean and modern look. Not a coffee person? That’s okay - fill your empty jar with tea bags instead!

2.Pens and pencil holders

Grab your empty jar - it’s time to tackle your office junk drawer! Empty candle vessels are just the right size for your pens, pencils, highlighters, and sticky notes.

3.Piggy bank

Check your couch cushions for coins, and start keeping them in your empty candle vessel! This is a great way to keep your house, car, and purse more organized while saving a little extra money.

4.Plant pot

Are you a plant lover too? Candle jars make the perfect plant pots and propagation stations - fill with some soil and add your favourite plant!

5.Toiletries

We love using empty candle jars to organize our toiletries, and honestly, there are so many different things you can add to your jars. The candle jars keep them all organized and separated from Q-tips to cotton rounds to hair ties!

6.DIY body scrub jars
Whether you’re trying to eliminate waste or just an avid DIY’er, this is a great way to repurpose your old jars! Search up a DIY body scrub recipe and refill your empty vessel! Here are some of our favourite body scrubs to make at home:

7.Order a refill from Everly

The best way to reuse an empty candle vessel is by creating a whole new candle! Everly has wax refill kits that make it easier to repurpose your candle vessels. Once you receive your kit in the mail, stick the wick in the bottom of your vessel, microwave your wax bag for two minutes, pour the wax into your vessel, and enjoy a new candle made entirely of coconut, soy wax, and non-toxic fragrances.

The best part? The packaging is compostable, which helps to keep our Earth clean and free of plastics!
